Simple clouds

These fluffy summer clouds might look complicated at first but you will find them surprisingly easy if you paint them in stages as I have done here. Remember not to have a clear edge all the way round each cloud as this tends to make them float off the page and they will not look realistic.

1 Start at the top of the sky with a wash of Coeruleum and Ultramarine. Use plenty of water, but leave a ragged edge for the top of the clouds. Next paint in the shadow base of the clouds.

2 Use pure white (no water) to quickly paint in the top edge of the clouds. The patch of sky beneath the clouds is a mix of Coeruleum, Lemon Yellow and white (turquoise hue). Finally, paint the horizon and distant hill.
